American Gold Cup
Horse Show Jumping Returns to Cleveland Metroparks Polo Field
MORELAND HILLS, OH – August 27, 2010 – The prestigious
Cleveland Autumn Jumper Series, including the American Gold Cup and the North
Coast Jumper Classic, will return to the Cleveland Metroparks Polo Field in
just a few weeks. After a year’s absence the two-week show jumping spectacular
returns Wednesday, September 8.
The highlight of the two-week Cleveland Autumn Jumper Series
is the international FEI World Cup qualifying competition, the American Gold
Cup class on Sunday, September 19, at 2:00 p.m.
“We are committed to bringing the nation’s top show jumpers
to Cleveland. This area is so supportive of show jumping and although we are
still without a title sponsor, the show will go on,” said Michael Morrissey,
who brought the American Gold Cup back to its Cleveland birthplace in 2006
after a 35-year absence.
The Cleveland Autumn Jumper Series begins with the North
Coast Jumper Classic, September 8-12, including the $35,000 North Coast Grand
Prix on Saturday, September 11. This event is followed by the American Gold Cup
show, September 15-19, which will include the $30,000 American Gold Cup Welcome
Stake on Friday, September 17, which is a qualifier for the $75,000 American
Gold Cup class on Sunday, September 19.
The 2010 American Gold Cup will feature many top riders
including the 2008 American Gold Cup winner Norman Dello Joio who is an Olympian and World Cup Champion, McLain
Ward, 2004 Olympic Gold medalist, Olympian
and World Equestrian Games team member, Margie Engle, has over 175 grand prix wins and multiple American
Grand Prix Association Rider of the Year titles, Joe Fargis, three-time Olympic medalist (two times Gold), and Candice
King, who just returned from representing
the United States in Europe, including the World Cup Finals.
The American Gold Cup benefits JustWorld International, a
501(c)(3) charitable organization that acts as a catalyst for positive change
in the developing world. JustWorld (www.justworldinternational.org)
accomplishes this goal by working with international organizations to provide
basic education, nutrition and other programs for children in impoverished
communities, along with raising awareness and funds in the international
equestrian community and by providing young people with volunteer opportunities.
Event admission is free for the North Coast Jumper Classic
and the weekdays of the American Gold Cup show. The final American Gold Cup
weekend, September 18-19, tickets will be available at the gate. Box seats are
